WORLDSBK.COM Geschrieben 13. Juni 2012 report Teilen Geschrieben 13. Juni 2012 Sunday was another fantastic day for the Kawasaki DeltaFin Lorenzini team as Kenan Sofuoglu rode his Ninja ZX-6R to the race win at Misano and in doing so put himself into a 22 point lead in the championship standings. Sofuoglu also became the only rider to win more than a single race in the 2012 championship when he beat Honda rider Jules Cluzel by just over a second. His win was a front running effort, with the Turkish star passing over the startline in the lead for all 22 laps. The two-times former world champion had never won at Misano and to do so with a Kawasaki gave him a particular satisfaction, as the Japanese manufacturer, through the Mantova-based Lorenzini squad, is making a big effort this year to take the Supersport title away from the dominant Hondas.Kenan Sofuoglu: "I am very happy to have won here because I have not taken a win at Misano before. I have raced here for many years but this time it happened. The win and the points for the championship are good but, really, I am so happy for Kawasaki. They are really giving me what I want and what I need and it has brought me the leading position in the championship and given me the chance to win races." WORLDSBK.COM Geschrieben 13. Juni 2012 report Teilen Geschrieben 13. Juni 2012 Jonathan Rea (Honda World Superbike Team) and his team have been making strong upward progress in the eni FIM Superbike World Championship standings recently. As low as seventh overall on two occasions this season, Rea's fight back has been occasionally meteoric (one win at Assen and another at Donington) but increasingly consistent due to a recent run of top five finishes all others with the exception of championship leader Max Biaggi have failed to match. Sixth overall after race one at Donington, Rea then scored victory number two then left his home track third. He went fourth after Miller's two races, but moved up to third after race one at the recent San Marino round, then pushed his way to second in race two.For Rea, it's all been down to advances in the capability, repeatability of performance and wider window of tyre options his bike is providing to his technical crew. Rea said at Misano, "The bike was very good in race one and race two. In race one things were really good until the tyre went off. We did not do enough laps on the bigger profile rear tyre to use it for the race, so in race two we stayed with the 190 profile rear and used the soft option, the ‘A'. I am quite happy that in the hot conditions, in the summer, our bike can use an A tyre. I got stuck behind Tom to start in race two and also Davide Giugliano was being quite aggressive on circuit so I got a bit out of my rhythm, but stayed calm, regrouped and made a nice pass on Tom."Rea said in the press conference at Misano after race two that he had had to ride almost a perfect race just to keep Haslam behind, so tight was their game of cat-and-mouse in the final laps of race two. "I had to ride a clean race because Leon Haslam was ‘+0' on my pit board all the time, so it was good to take a podium and finish second."Rea's most obvious goal now, if he wants to be champion, is to win more races to peg back the ever-inflating points lead of Biaggi. For Rea, however, thoughts of the championship are far from his mind. "I do not look at the championship position right now; we are just trying to go round-by-round. My guys are working calmly in the pits so to come to a circuit where we struggled last year and do well means I am quite looking forward to Aragon, then to finish Aragon, to get married and then come back to the rest of the circuits where I am quite strong." WORLDSBK.COM Geschrieben 14. Juni 2012 report Teilen Geschrieben 14. Juni 2012 Teenage racer Loris Baz has made a confident jump across classes in the eni FIM Superbike World Championship paddock this season, as he joined the official Kawasaki Racing Team after the serious injuries suffered by team regular Joan Lascorz.Starting the season in the Team MRS Kawasaki Superstock 1000 FIM Cup squad, Baz was promoted to the full Superbike machine at Donington, and then again at Miller. The Misano round was the first in which he was a confirmed rider for the team and he made a good job in qualifying, despite being slightly concerned about the stop-go nature of the circuit layout. He need not have worried, as he qualified for Superpole for the first time and then went on to line up 11th on the grid.A small problem with big consequences for his chances in race one at Misano saw Loris finally forced to retire, when looking good for a strong points score. Said Loris, "I had a problem in race one, with the electronics in the gear shifter, after five laps. I tried to ride without it for ten laps but it became a bit risky, so I came in. I knew I had a good race pace so I think in race one I could have finished between tenth and 12th, something like that."In race two he battled hard after a less than perfect start and finished an impressive eighth, equalling his best result from the Donington round, and finishing just behind fellow KRT rider Tom Sykes. "I tried to start a bit better, which I did not do!," said Loris. "Then I tried to go faster in the first few laps and then our race pace was really good, so I could come back to Laverty, Tom Sykes and some other riders. I was comfortable where I was so I did not want to make a stupid mistake trying to overtake Tom. For me eighth is really good. I would have like to try and pass Tom but I did not want to take any risks."A curiosity: 19 year-old Baz is now 19th in the championship, on 19 points, one place or one point for each birthday. WORLDSBK.COM Geschrieben 14. Juni 2012 report Teilen Geschrieben 14. Juni 2012 Following on from what was almost a podium finish at Miller Motorsports Park (fourth in race 2), Chaz Davies was once again in the thick of the action at Misano's eni FIM Superbike World Championship round on Sunday. The Welshman, reigning Supersport champion, had a superb run through the field in race 1 on his ParkinGO MTC Racing Aprilia RSV4 machine, making up for the problems he had encountered during the previous two days of practice and qualifying. After qualifying 21st on the grid, and therefore unable to make the Tissot-Superpole, Davies showed excellent pace in race 1 to finish sixth, finding himself caught up in a battle with riders of the calibre of Jonathan Rea and Eugene Laverty, who finished fifth and seventh respectively."It has been fun!" said Davies. "The bike was very consistent, not great but fun to ride and manage. Last night the team changed a few things on the front allowing me to ride it better and finally breaking the wall of the 36's after going through the wall of the 38 and 37.4 during this weekend."In race 2, after starting with more confidence, Chaz took the same strategy, getting to 10th position in only a few laps. Unfortunately his comeback was interrupted nine laps before the end of the race after losing the front at the Curvone when he was closing up the gap with the Kawasaki riders. The condition of the bike after his crash didn't allow Davies to get back into the race, but in any case the man from Knighton again appeared on the front-running radar over the weekend. WORLDSBK.COM Geschrieben 15. Juni 2012 report Teilen Geschrieben 15. Juni 2012 Having won the 2011 Superstock 1000 FIM Cup title in such fine style Davide Giugliano (Althea Racing) was well worth his opportunity to join the Superbike area of the Althea operation on a full-time basis this year. A rider who can trace his roots back to his first races in the Superstock 600 championship in 2005, Giugliano has more than resurrected his career in the SBK paddock over the past two or three seasons. What was only promising and occasionally wayward talent from the Italian rider at one time is now becoming promise delivered, although he is the first to admit he is still in a learning phase of his career. He had already been a major player at the Assen SBK round in April, finishing second in race one to his team-mate Carlos Checa. At Misano, on home ground, he was a seemingly even more potent force last weekend, even if he only scored third and did not repeat his Assen feat. His relative inexperience told when he fell under pressure in race two at Misano, but in terms of pure talent and desire to win, Giugliano is already close to the top of the SBK order. In terms of points, he is ranked ninth at the halfway point of the season, despite having missed out on scoring on all of four occasions. One to watch in the second half for sure - especially as he is still only 22 years of age.For Giugliano, a native of the ‘Eternal City' of Rome, the first encounter was particularly pleasing. "I'm really happy with how race one went," said Davide. "We're gaining experience race after race and I'm trying to put everything that the team and Ducati has given me to good use. I knew that the last phase of the race would be more difficult and I was right; I started to have grip issues and got a little nervous when I saw Carlos and Max right behind me! I'm really happy with the result, and the fact that it comes here at Misano."Race two at Misano was not quite a dream finish for him, as he explained. "On the other hand, I'm really sorry about what happened in the second race. I was lapping very fast and doing all I could to stick with the leading group. Perhaps I pushed a little too hard and it was game over. I apologise to my team, that has worked so hard for me this weekend, to the fans and I'm also sorry for how Carlos' race came to an end." WORLDSBK.COM Geschrieben 15. Juni 2012 report Teilen Geschrieben 15. Juni 2012 Jonathan Rea and Hiroshi Aoyama have declared themselves satisfied after concluding a two-day private test at the Assen circuit in the Netherlands. Assen is the nominated test circuit for the Honda World Superbike Team and lies just 65km from the team's Nieuwleusen headquarters in the north of Holland. Despite losing some track time yesterday morning while the circuit was cleaned, the team tried the latest evolution of its Honda CBR1000RR Fireblade engine and also worked on a variety of chassis components and electronics settings.Jonathan Rea: "There was some slippery stuff on the circuit first thing yesterday and it took some time to put some rubber down, but it turned out pretty good in the end. We got to try a lot of new stuff, some of which we'd be reluctant to try over a race weekend and we ended up faster than over the race weekend in April. The new engine was a little better on the straights but we won't make any firm conclusions until we get to Aragon with our rivals. We worked a lot on gathering data for new electronics strategies and we've definitely made a step forward here and we're looking forward to using that. The throttle is smoother on acceleration and we also tried quite an extreme front fork setting which gave a good feeling. I'm looking forward to a couple of weeks off now, before re-gathering with the team at Aragon."Hiroshi Aoyama: "I crashed at about 240kph yesterday at the end of the back straight at Assen. I slid for a very long time on the asphalt and I think I was almost cooked by the time I eventually stopped! Apart from that, the test was very positive for me and we tested some things that I like. We have also improved braking stability into the corner and this gives me a lot more confidence. I will take a breather now and prepare for Aragon, which is not so far from my home in Barcelona." WORLDSBK.COM Geschrieben 15. Juni 2012 report Teilen Geschrieben 15. Juni 2012 The opening round of the 2012 Coppa dei Due Paesi (Two Nations Cup) was held during the eni FIM Superbike World Championship weekend last week at Misano. This is the second edition of the joint Italo-Russian project, which this year has become a UEM (European Motorcycle Union) championship to all effects. With a 20 rider grid line-up, the first of the three rounds in the calendar saw the win go to Leonardo Biliotti, riding a Team Trasimeno Yamaha YZF-R6 machine. The Italian aims to become the second winner of the trophy, following on from Russia's Vladimir Leonov, who is currently racing World Supersport with a Yakhnich Motorsport Yamaha.Biliotti rocketed away from the front row on his home track after setting second quickest time in qualifying, ahead of his fellow Italian and poleman Denis Sacchetti, the Go Eleven Superstock team manager deciding to put on his leathers and helmet again for the trophy on a Kawasaki ZX-6R.The final podium place went to a wild-card rider of the calibre of Alessia Polita, who is currently competing in the CIV Italian Superstock 600 Championship. Polita finished third overall but doesn't score in the championship so the 16 points went to Superstock 600 stalwart Patrik Vostarek (Honda Motorpower), who just finished ahead of a rider with a famous surname, Dakota Mamola (son of Randy), on a Yakhnich Motorsport Yamaha in fourth. There were actually four women who lined up on the starting-grid for the opening round: as well as Polita, Romana Fede and Yakhnich Motorsport regular Nataliya Lyubimova together with Ekaterina Rutskova from Russia were also present. The Coppa dei Due Paesi will now move on to its second round at Brno on July 22, with the grand finale set for August 26 at the Moscow Raceway, both rounds held as part of the World Superbike race weekend.
