WORLDSBK.COM Geschrieben 15. Oktober 2012 report Teilen Geschrieben 15. Oktober 2012 Following recent media coverage regarding FIXI Crescent Suzuki and Sylvain Guintoli's 2013 plans, the UK-based Suzuki World Superbike team would like to make the following statement. Crescent came to a full and final agreement with Guintoli for him to join the team for 2013 on a one-year contract. After detailed discussion and amendments, the contract was signed at Magny-Cours by Guintoli and Team Principal Paul Denning. Guintoli made a lengthy and positive press interview regarding his decision to join the FIXI Crescent Suzuki squad, and engaged in a detailed meeting with Crescent's engineers regarding bike set-up and specific test items for the Aragon test starting today (Monday 15th October). Despite this clear and obvious commitment, Crescent now understands that Guintoli has since received an alternative offer from a rival manufacturer. He has told Crescent that he wants to consider this offer in detail and that he is now unable to commit to the Aragon test or to the agreement made with Crescent. Despite the obvious turmoil and potential damages created by these actions, Crescent has taken the decision to move forward and to simply release Guintoli from any obligations for the forthcoming season. Following these developments, FIXI Crescent Suzuki and the newly re-signed Leon Camier will now be joined at this week's World Superbike test at Aragon in Spain by Suzuki's Australian Superbike Champion Josh Waters. The 25-year-old Australian from Mildura in the state of Victoria wrapped up his second Australian Superbike Championship this season - a title he'd also won in 2009 - and will make his debut for the FIXI Crescent Suzuki team in Spain during the three-day test. FIXI Crescent Suzuki will assess its rider options over the next few days, and will naturally be considering Waters as a candidate following the test, which will allow both team and rider to have a closer understanding of the mutual potential. Paul Denning - Team Principal: "I am extremely disappointed and surprised by Sylvain's lack of integrity and total lack of respect for the mutual commitments made. He is the last rider I would have expected to behave in such a way, especially as we have had a close professional and personal relationship previously. Our team has always tried to stand by the fundamental principle that you stick to what you've agreed to, and in the long run it's always been the best policy. Sylvain clearly doesn't feel the same way and is prepared to ignore a handshake, a gentleman's agreement and indeed a written contract - and that's a great shame. "Our energies are now focused on looking forward to the positive opportunities we have as a team in 2013. We are delighted that Josh has been able to join us on such short notice to help us with our plans for next season - he's had a very strong season with the Suzuki Australian Superbike team and he performed brilliantly for our partners, Yoshimura, in the Suzuka 8-Hour race. I am sure he will settle in with the crew quickly and we're all looking forward to seeing how he goes! WORLDSBK.COM Geschrieben 15. Oktober 2012 report Teilen Geschrieben 15. Oktober 2012 The most exciting finale ever in the 25-year history of the Superbike World Championship at Magny-Cours set the scene for another chapter in the SBK Hall of Fame. On a day that saw a triumph for French motorcycling, with four different winners in five races (Jeremy Guarnoni in STK1000, Sylvain Guintoli in SBK race 1, Jules Cluzel in Supersport and Guillaume Raymond in the final round of the KTM European Junior Cup), two famed ‘motard' riders of the calibre of Regis Laconi and Sebastien Charpentier, together with the Australian two-time Supersport World Champion Andrew Pitt, were awarded their prestigious 25 Years medal. For Regis Laconi, 2004 WSBK runner-up with the factory Ducati Fila team, it was an important recognition for a successful career entirely dedicated to two wheels and one that rapidly helped him to become one of the most-loved figures in the SBK paddock. The man from Saint-Dizier raced 173 times for Aprilia, Ducati and Kawasaki, scoring a total of 28 podiums including 11 wins, the first at Imola in 2001 on a factory Aprilia RSV1000. He then scored ten others in 2004 and 2005 with the factory Ducati team, coming very close to winning the title. Forced to retire from racing after an unfortunate incident in Kyalami practice in 2009, Regis has since then mainly devoted himself to cycling, his other chief passion even when he was racing bikes! While Laconi was unable to taste the joy of victory at his home Magny-Cours round, Sebastien Charpentier did so in 2006, his second title win in a category in which he truly made his name. Seb holds the record for pole positions (22) and in 87 races he stepped onto the podium 23 times, with 13 wins to his name. Twelve of these came in 2005-2006 with two successive titles conquered together with Ten Kate Honda. From one World Supersport champ to another: and this time a rider with SBK glory to his name. Andrew Pitt hit the top spot in 2001 with Kawasaki (the first for the Akashi manufacturer) and then in 2008 with Ten Kate Honda. Appreciated for his refined ability as a test-rider, the multi-talented Australian scored two title wins and 7 race wins in Supersport, but between 2005 and 2006 he also raced for Yamaha Motor Italia in Superbike with excellent results, the best one being his race 2 win at Misano in 2006. After hanging up his leathers for good at the start of 2012, with his entry into the SBK Hall of Fame Pitt has crowned a satisfactory and truly successful career in racing. WORLDSBK.COM Geschrieben 16. Oktober 2012 report Teilen Geschrieben 16. Oktober 2012 The Red Devils Roma team opted for the Vallelunga circuit on the outskirts of Rome to present its plans for the 2013 season. During the weekend Italian rider Michel Fabrizio and team manager Andrea Petricca met up with fans and journalists after the CIV Italian domestic series qualifying sessions, during which they presented their programme for 2013 and confirmed that the team would be switching from Ducati to Aprilia. Fabrizio is already out on the track on his Aprilia RSV4 Factory machine at testing currently being held at Motorland Aragon from Monday to Wednesday this week. The Red Devils Roma team technicians and their new rider will be searching for the best possible set-up and development from the Aprilia in view of the opening round of next year's Superbike World Championship at Phillip Island in Australia. WORLDSBK.COM Geschrieben 16. Oktober 2012 report Teilen Geschrieben 16. Oktober 2012 This year's championship runner-up Tom Sykes (Kawasaki Racing Team) moved to the top of the timesheets as the first bout of end-of-season testing concluded its second day of three at the MotorLand Aragon circuit in Spain. The Yorkshireman knocked a full second off his day 1 time as he continued with his terrific form at the Kawasaki team's ‘home' circuit. In second place today was the man who beat him to the title by just half a point, Italian Max Biaggi (Aprilia Racing Team), who completed exactly the same number of laps and who also dropped his time by a full second. Day 1 pacesetter Leon Camier (FIXI Crescent Suzuki) continued his superb testing form with third quickest time. The only incident to report on a warm sunny day with no wind was a harmless crash for Davide Giugliano (Althea Racing Ducati). These three days of unofficial testing conclude tomorrow Wednesday. Times: 1.Sykes (Kawasaki) 1'57"6 (52 laps); 2. Biaggi (Aprilia) 1'57"8 (52); 3. Camier (Suzuki) 1'58"1 (60); 4. Laverty (Aprilia) 1'58"4 (68); 5. Fabrizio (Aprilia) 1'58"4 (70); 6. WORLDSBK.COM Geschrieben 17. Oktober 2012 report Teilen Geschrieben 17. Oktober 2012 FIXI Crescent Suzuki rider John Hopkins will be taking a sabbatical from professional motorcycle racing for 2013 as he aims for a return to full fitness before considering the next steps in his career. Hopkins has been struggling with injuries for the whole 2012 season and was forced to withdraw early from the World Superbike event in France due to a re-occurrence of his hip injury. He initially had to have a finger-top amputated in January, due to the after-effects of an injury from 2011, and then crashed heavily in a pre-season test in Australia and broke the same hand. He had to undergo six surgeries, including failed corrective surgeries, suffered a severe infection and eventual amputation of the finger in a span of four months. Then the same hand was badly broken only six weeks after the amputation, which resulted in the 29th surgery of his career - at only 29-years-old! Hopkins made a return to the Suzuki GSX-R at the Imola round, but then crashed heavily two events later in Monza, a massive high-side that resulted in him severely injuring his hip. Hopkins again returned to competitive action after a one-race lay-off, but has battled against the damage to his hip for the remainder of the season. He has shown glimpses of the talent that led him to fourth place in the MotoGP World Championship in 2007 and to the fantastic performances in BSB in 2011, but has been unable to produce the form he knows he needs to be as competitive on the world stage. Hopkins will return home to America to have further tests and repair evaluations on his injured hip and will then decide what his next course of action will be. "I have really struggled with my hip since the crash at Monza and I know that it is a priority to get my health sorted before I can even think about racing again" declared Hopkins. " I didn't want to pledge myself to the FIXI Crescent Suzuki team for 2013 and then not be able to give 100% because the injury is a constant worry, so although this is a difficult decision it is the correct one. I will be going back to America for a bunch of tests and then we'll decide what the best course of action is. If that is a hip replacement or something similar, then that is what I am prepared to do to make sure I can get my health and fitness back. At the moment the injury is influencing everything I do in my home, personal and racing life, so I need to get it sorted out properly. I still have the desire and passion to race against the world's best riders but every time I have pumped myself up to go for it this season, the hip has quickly and painfully reminded me that I need to be careful - and that's no way to go racing. "Everyone at the team has been very supportive this year, because they know what I've been through, so I want to send my thanks to them for all their encouragement and backing. I'd like to also thank all the racing fans and my personal sponsors - in particular Arai, Alpinestars and Monster who have been with me for so long - they have all been so positively behind me, I'm sorry that it's not worked out this year, but I really do hope to be back!" WORLDSBK.COM Geschrieben 17. Oktober 2012 report Teilen Geschrieben 17. Oktober 2012 Kawasaki fielded one of their strongest line-ups ever in the Supersport class in 2012, and their policy paid off handsomely as Kenan Sofuoglu took the title for the Akashi manufacturer for the first time since 2001. But another key note of interest came mid-season with the arrival of the MSD R-N Kawasaki team, an Indian-backed and managed outfit that has high hopes and expectations for the future. Riders Dan Linfoot from the UK and Florian Marino from France were only mid-field runners as the team gathered experience from Brno onwards, but eventually it was the 24 year-old British rider who made the breakthrough result with a well-deserved podium finish at the final round of the season. WorldSBK.com spoke to British rider Dan Linfoot about his Supersport year. What a great finish to the season! You came back from an injury and started with a brand-new team in a championship that you had never taken part in before. How do you feel about getting onto the podium at Magny-Cours? "I feel very happy with the achievement we made as a team in the final round at Magny-Cours. To be on the podium is a great achievement for a new team, in only 5 races. I started at Silverstone after injuring my hand. Of course, it's down to hard work from everyone in the team." Are you happy to be back on the world stage? Is it somewhere you feel you belong? "I am very happy to be racing in World Supersport, to be honest, this is where I have wanted to race since leaving 250GP in 2007. I've had a difficult few years in BSB, but this only makes me more determined to succeed here in WSS. Yes I do feel comfortable in this class, I feel at home, and know I can deliver results." Did you enjoy this half season or so with the MSD R-N Team India Kawasaki? "Yes, I really did enjoy this half season with MSD R-N, I met and am working with some great guys, the involvement of management from India is a great addition to the team, which I'm sure will succeed. It's a fantastic new team, and I feel very proud to have delivered their first podium." What's the plan for next season? Stay with the team or look for something else? "I am hoping to stay with MSD R-N racing team India for the full World Supersport Championship, and should know in the next few weeks if this is possible." What was your impression of the World Supersport level last season? "It always has been a great championship, close racing, exciting and well subscribed in terms of manufacturers, and this proved to be the case again this year. To have Kenan three times a World Champion in the class, proves the level is still very high." View the full article Link zu diesem Kommentar Auf anderen Seiten teilen Mehr Optionen zum Teilen...
WORLDSBK.COM Geschrieben 17. Oktober 2012 report Teilen Geschrieben 17. Oktober 2012 Three days of good weather allowed top teams from Aprilia, Kawasaki, Ducati and Suzuki to test at the Motorland Aragon circuit, evaluating the 17-inch Pirelli tyres that will be the new regulation size for 2013. Fastest rider of all was Tom Sykes (Kawasaki Racing Team) matching his day two best of 1'57.6 again on the final day. In the July tests at Aragon, when the first 17-inch tyres made an appearance, Sykes had also been fastest man, with a 1'57.254 lap. The next best rider was Max Biaggi (Aprilia Racing), two tenths of a second behind. The teams started out on 16.5 inch rims on the first day, Monday, before moving to the 17s, with Leon Camier (FIXI Crescent Suzuki) scoring the quickest time on day one, then Sykes going faster than all others on day two and then again on the final day. The morning session of the third day was disturbed after Carlos Checa's Althea Racing Ducati Panigale 1199RS locked up on the start-finish straight. The bike lost oil into the track surface for most of the straight, causing a long delay as it was cleaned up. He would not improve on his best time after this problem, and having previously set a 1'58.5. On the re-start most riders found it difficult to improve on their previous best, simply because of a strong headwind down the long back straight. Michel Fabrizio had his first ride on the Red Devils Roma Aprilia at this test, with Josh Waters joining Camier in the garage before heading back to his native Australia. Overall times: 1. Sykes (Kawasaki) 1'57.6; 2. Biaggi (Aprilia) 1'57.8; 3. Camier (Suzuki) 1'58.1; 4. Laverty (Aprilia) 1'58.1; 5. Fabrizio (Aprilia) 1'58.4; 6. Baz (Kawasaki) 1'58.5; 7. Checa (Ducati) 1'58.5; 8. WORLDSBK.COM Geschrieben 18. Oktober 2012 report Teilen Geschrieben 18. Oktober 2012 A swathe of new regulations have been brought in by the FIM and the Superbike Commission to the Superbike and Supersport World Championships and the Supersport 1000 Cup in view of the 2013 season. One of the main changes in the SBK class is the possibility for riders to enter the pits during the race to change tyres and make any adjustments should climatic conditions alter to make this advisable. As a result races will now no longer be interrupted and will run flag-to-flag. Refueling is strictly prohibited and three mechanics (plus the rider if he wishes to do so) will be allowed to work on the bike, which must remain in the pit lane. A second important change is that from now on riders on the starting-grid will line up in 3-3-3-3 echelon configuration. There will also be an across-the-board minimum weight of 165 kg, a measure that brings 2-cylinder machines down to the same level as 3 and 4 cylinder bikes, as well as mandatory 17 inch aluminum wheels. In order to further make Superbikes closer in appearance to the road-going machines they are based on, all motorcycles must now have a functioning red safety light mounted at the rear. In addition the exact appearance, shape, size and location of the front headlights of the homologated motorcycle must be respected by means of the application of a plastic or metallic film on the front of the bike. Kawasaki were the first to introduce this aesthetic measure this year, swiftly followed by Honda at the final round. The same measures regarding rear safety lights have also been introduced into the Supersport and Superstock categories. WORLDSBK.COM Geschrieben 19. Oktober 2012 report Teilen Geschrieben 19. Oktober 2012 From the Misano Adriatico round onwards, this year's Supersport World Championship saw the arrival of a rider of considerable international fame, Gabor Talmacsi, when the Hungarian signed up for the PRORACE Honda team. In eight races Talmacsi, the 2007 world 125 cc champion, soon made a good impression, finishing the season with 44 points to his name and 13th overall. A sixth place at the Nurburgring was his best result. After this encouraging year, Talmacsi and the PRORACE team have opted to continue their collaboration and the partnership with the 31-year-old from Budapest for next season has been renewed. "I am happy to continue in World Supersport with PRORACE", declared Talmacsi. "With the experience gained this year we will start the 2013 season with an intense winter testing programme and with the knowledge that we can express our best potential. I have a lot of faith in the team and I am sure we'll have a great opportunity to work well together and score some excellent results." The PRORACE Honda team, which won the Assen round this year with Lorenzo Lanzi, is run by Milos Cihak, who expressed his satisfaction at the confirmation of a rider of the calibre of Talmacsi in the team. "We are delighted to be able to continue working with Gabor: together we have planned an intense winter testing and development programme for the bike with the aim of reaching the top of the World Supersport Championship. We will be preparing in the next few weeks in order to be competitive right from the start of the season in Australia", concluded Cihak.
