A two-year agreement for the 2013-2014 World Superbike Championship seasons has been signed between Ducati and Francis Batta's Belgian organisation, Team Alstare. Carlos Checa and Ayrton Badovini will join Alstare staff ready to prepare for the challenge of the 2013 World Superbike Championship. Powered by the new Ducati 1199 Panigale, the team will officially represent the Bologna-based manufacturer under the title "Team Ducati Alstare".

Team Alstare is renowned for its benchmark professionalism and expertise and its headquarters, at Alleur in Belgium, is among the most technologically advanced in the sport. This impressive set-up combined with the passion of the Bologna factory's engineers will create the perfect synergy to meet the expectations of the new Ducati 1199 Panigale. Alstare technicians and the Ducati Superbike development team will start working together immediately, with pre-winter tests scheduled to begin at the Aragon circuit in Spain on 14-15 November and continuing at Jerez from 28-30 November.

"At Ducati, we are very happy and confident with this agreement," commented Ernesto Marinelli, Ducati Superbike Project Manager. "The professionalism, passion and sporting character of Francis Batta and all his staff, together with his structure, which sets an industry standard in terms of equipment and organisation, are vital elements for our future plans. We have a lot of work to do, and I am sure that we are able to do it in the best possible way."

From 1995-1997, a similar partnership returned exceptionally good results, when Ducati and Team Alstare joined forces to compete in the European Supersport, World Supersport and World Superbike series.

"For me, it's an absolute thrill to be able to join the Ducati family again," commented Francis Batta on the two-year agreement with the factory. "Together, we were so successful in the past and Ducati remains a reference brand for me today. We are going to face a challenge which is highly stimulating both for me and for my team and we will apply our absolute best efforts to making sure this is a successful endeavour."

The third winter test for the Kawasaki Racing Team duo of Tom Sykes and Loris Baz gets underway on Wednesday 14 November at Motorland Aragon in Spain, with each rider out to continue their good recent progress.

At the two previous test sessions after the completion of the 2012 season, at Motorland and then more recently in Valencia, the team worked well with the new 17-inch tyres which will become the regulation size for the 2013 season. This aspect of the workload will continue at Aragon once more and new electronics advances are also due to be tried out, aimed at strengthening what is already a highly positive element in the overall makeup of the official Ninja ZX-10R SBK racebike.

Team Manager Guim Roda said: "At the next test at Motorland Aragon we will continue working on our new 2013 bikes. We will work exclusively with the new tyre sizes and will introduce some new electronic improvements. As always will continue developing the suspension package and try to give more feedback to KHI in Japan to assist them in developing the bike for next January's tests. Tom is so strong and we need to keep him learning day-by-day to arrive at the first race in Australia in the most competitive way possible. Loris is growing up in a good way as an SBK racer and we are trying to teach him in one year what a normal rider could take three years to learn. We will also start to make some improvements on the way of working inside the team to be even more competitive. We are so excited to be working for a successful 2013 season already."

The Aragon tests will take place over two days, 14 and 15 November. After that there will be a two-day track outing at Jerez (26 and 27 November) before the winter test ban kicks in during December and the first half of January.

The 25th year of FIM Superbike World Championship competition was a truly incredible season on track, with one of the many exciting aspects being the fact that nine individual riders won at least one race. As well as the numbers game in 2012 terms only, the overall total number of individual race winners went up to 70 in 25 years of SBK's existence. New names appeared on the list like Sylvain Guintoli, Loris Baz and Chaz Davies, who joined the winners' club they now share with some of the biggest names ever to grace the scene in SBK racing.

In the overall classification of race winners, Carlos Checa is now the most successful current SBK rider, ranked - appropriately enough, seventh all time. His four wins from this year make his career total so far 24. Max Biaggi pierced the top ten in the overall win rankings and is now the ninth most successful rider in history with 21 victories to his name, including five in 2012. The double world champion however, unlike his long-time Spanish rival, has decided to hang up his leathers for good.

In terms of current riders there is a big gap back to the next most potent race-winning force in SBK, with Jonathan Rea 23rd in the table, with a total of ten, the same level as Marco Melandri, who is ranked 24th. Tom Sykes' remarkable 2012 season saw his personal race-winning total rise to five, placing him 29th overall.
